For fifteen years, Rabbi Howard Jachter has been a popular and highly regarded teacher of Gemara, Tanach, and Halacha at the
Torah Academy of Bergen County (TABC). Rabbi Jachter serves as a Dayan on the Beth Din of Elizabeth and has acquired an international reputation of excellence in the area of Get administration. He also is rabbi at the Sephardic Congregation of Teaneck, with which he has been affiliated for many years.
Rabbi Jachter has published dozens of articles in Torah journals both in America and Israel. His weekly columns on Halacha and Tanach are read by thousands worldwide in TABC’s weekly Kol Torah publication (
www.koltorah.org), of which he is the faculty advisor.
Rabbi Jachter published three volumes entitled
Gray Matter, focusing on contemporary halachic issues and is currently preparing a fourth volume. Rabbi Jachter has also written a number of seforim compiling his and his students’ Talmudic insights, as well as produced a CD (together with attorney Martin Shenkman), on halachic issues regarding Living Wills.
He is a member of the Rabbinical Council of America’s Va'ad Halacha and chairman of its Iggun resolution committee. He lectures throughout North America on subjects of vital concern to the Jewish community and is an eruv consultant to more than two dozen communities throughout North America.
Rabbi Jachter has both a bachelors and masters degrees from Yeshiva University and its Bernard Revel Graduate School. He received Yoreh Yoreh and Yadin Yadin semicha from RIETS. He was authorized to administer Gittin from Rav Zalman Nechemia Goldberg, Rav Melech Schachter, Rav Gedalia Schwartz and Rav Ovadia Yosef.
Rabbi Jachter and his wife Malca live in Teaneck, NJ with their five children.
