The Rabbinical Council of America joins the Jewish people in expressing condolences to the Asheri family whose son Eliahu was brutally murdered by evil and cruel people for no other reason than his being a Jew and an Israeli.
We are perplexed by the Israeli media's insistence on referring to Eliahu (may God avenge his blood) as a "settler". He was abducted and murdered because he was a Jew and an Israeli citizen. The blood of the "settlers" is not less red than the blood of any other Jew living in Israel or throughout the world.
We fully support the efforts of the Israel Defense Forces in the Gaza Strip to secure the safe release of Cpl. Gilad Shalit and to put an end to the Kassam Rocket attacks on Sderot and its environs.
We continue to pray for the safety and well being of the abducted soldier and all members of the IDF, and we call upon our members to continue to include special prayers on their behalf in their synagogues.
