Rabbi Moshe Kushner grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Ida Crown Jewish Academy, participated in the Bnei Akiva Hachshara Program in Israel, and received a B.A. from Loyola University. Rabbi Kushner received his semicha from Hebrew Theological College in Skokie, Illinois, where he later taught Hebrew and Tanach at Fasman Yeshiva High School.
Rabbi Kushner has remained very involved in working with children and teens. Not only has he taught junior high and high school students in a classroom setting, but he was the Director of Camp Moshava in Wild Rose, Wisconsin for 27 years. Rabbi Kushner remains in contact with the camp, and his wisdom and experience in planning, recruitment, and improvements in the facility and overall program have been and still are invaluable to the staff and administration of Camp Moshava.
In 1997 Rabbi Kushner joined the staff of the Chicago Rabbinical Council, the largest regional Orthodox rabbinic organization in the United States outside of New York. He oversees kashruth for trucking companies, including physically supervising truck, and train washes; he is the Passover Coordinator, which entails compiling, arranging, and distributing the annual cRc Passover Guide, ensuring that cRc companies are properly certified for Pesach, and guaranteeing that all cRc Jewish-owned companies sell their chametz. Rabbi Kushner also established a Kosher Seminar program to assist dieticians at major hospitals to arrange and handle kosher food for their Jewish patients.
In 2000 Rabbi Kushner became the Executive Director of the Chicago Rabbinical Council and has implemented many exciting and innovative programs in the past several years. He is particularly proud of designing the Kashruth Booth used at food shows across the country; designing the Spotlight on Chicago, an annual guide to Orthodox life in the Chicago area; revamping and continuing to print the Chadashot, the bi-monthly cRc newsletter; creating the Rav Gedalia Dov Schwartz, shlit”a, Beth Din Chamber, including its design and obtaining books for its library; and establishing the cRc annual Shaimot Geniza, which takes place at Camp Moshava during the Three Weeks. Rabbi Kushner also coordinates myriad programs for Chicago area rabbis, oversees the daily running of the cRc office, and is always looking for new opportunities to help the Chicago community and cRc members.
Rabbi Kushner has also been a mohel for over 20 years, and he is proud to be able to not only serve the Orthodox community but the greater Chicago Jewish community in this area as well.
Rabbi Kushner and his wife, Sylvia, have four children and five grandchildren.
