Rabbi Shlomo (Myles) Brody serves as a Ram (senior instructor) at
Yeshivat Hakotel, the historic yeshivat hesder in Jerusalem's Old City. In addition to teaching a regular gemara shiur to its post high-school foreign students, Rabbi Brody also delivers regular classes in contemporary halakhic topics and Jewish philosophy, and serves as the coordinator for Hakotel's post-college program. Concurrently, he is the online editor of
Tradition, including its acclaimed blog,
Text & Texture, the Ask the Rabbi columnist for The Jerusalem Post, and a regular visiting speaker at synagogues and on campuses in North America.
Rabbi Brody was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He credits his childhood experiences for inspiring him to enter the rabbinate. "My parents were extremely active as lay leaders of the Robert M. Beren Academy. I saw first-hand their achievements and struggles in developing the school, and in particular in finding suitable rabbis for the faculty. I began to imagine myself in those types of rabbinic positions."
Reflecting on his different teaching and publishing responsibilities, Rabbi Brody states, "I enjoy balancing the goals of both instilling religious passion and intellectual rigor. While my teaching and writing style must adjust to the different audiences to which I am addressing, ultimately my mission remains the same: to inspire spiritual excitement and emotional connections to Torah without compromising on intellectual quality and honesty."
A summa cum laude graduate of Harvard College, Rabbi Brody received semicha from the Israeli Chief Rabbinate after several years of study in Yeshivat Har Etzion, and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Jewish philosophy at the Hebrew University.
Rabbi Brody lives in Jerusalem with his wife Rocky and their two children, Gila and Amichai.
